New Features Make This Year’s Event Unforgettable
The holiday season is fast approaching, and with it comes The Lights of Christmas holiday event which promises to be brighter and more magical than ever before. This year, the event has introduced a whole host of exciting new features designed to dazzle both children and adults alike. From a larger-than-life Gingerbread Lane to an expanded maze and a revamped toy shop area, the festivities are shaping up to be a holiday experience like no other.
So, what’s new this year? Let’s dive in.
The New Gingerbread Lane Display: A Sweet Spectacle
Without a doubt, the standout attraction this year is the new Gingerbread Lane display. Imagine a life-size, 3-dimensional wonderland filled with gingerbread houses, giant gingerbread men and women, and cookies that are not only visually stunning but also lit up with vibrant, moving lights.
“The biggest new thing is that we have the gigantic new gingerbread lane display, which I hope kids think is as fun as I think it is,” says Sara Kauffman one of the event organizers. “It’s life-size, with gingerbread houses, men, and women cookies that are lit up. The houses will have pixel lights on them, so they’ll have movement lights on them. I would say at the peak, they’re probably like 7 feet tall, so they’re not tiny.”
What makes this display extra special is the attention to detail. The gingerbread men and women are dressed in colorful bow ties and buttons, outlined with flat lights to create a whimsical glow. Plus, overhead elements and lights bring it all to life, creating a magical atmosphere that feels larger than life.
The Gingerbread Lane is meant to be “fun for children,” the organizers note, but it is hard to believe that adults won’t be equally enchanted by the charm and creativity that went into this one-of-a-kind installation.
“We originally thought of doing something like a knockoff Willy Wonka theme, and it has kind of just ended up turning into this,” Sara reflects with a smile. “So, it’s all candy and bakery-themed, with a lot of movement and light. It’s very cute.”
Bigger Maze, Bigger Fun
The Light Maze in Joyland has expanded this year, with more twists and turns that provide surprising nooks for Photo Ops, along with the giant Christmas tree in the center and “snow” every 15 minutes. With a traditional Christmas town train display and gift shopping also available, Joyland is a great place to let the wiggles out.
Santa’s Village Gets a Makeover
Santa’s Village has received an upgrade this year. The Gift Shop is moving to its own cabin, making room for Santa’s Toy Shop in the main building.
“We will have wooden toys that we will be selling as kits, and you can either paint them right there using the paint markers we provide, or you can take them home to enjoy as a family project,” explains Sara. “We’ve set up tables for families to make the crafts on-site if they want, but if they prefer to take it home, that’s also an option.”
These simple wooden toys offer a nostalgic, hands-on element to the event, allowing families to create something meaningful together. It’s a great holiday activity for kids and adults alike.
What to Expect: Lights, Fun, and Lots of Holiday Cheer
As you can see, this year’s event is packed with new and exciting features that cater to both the young and the young at heart. Whether you’re drawn to the dazzling Gingerbread Lane, ready to take on the expanded Light Maze, or excited to craft wooden toys with your family, there’s something for everyone.
“I think this is going to be a really fun year,” Sara adds. “There are quite a lot of new things to enjoy, and I hope it’s received as well as I imagine it will be.”
So, mark your calendars—this year’s event promises to be a festive experience full of light, movement, and holiday magic. Whether you’re driving through Gingerbread Lane, getting lost in the Light Maze, or crafting with your family in Santa’s Toy Shop, you’re sure to create lasting memories.
