My Christmas story

I was warm and cozy in my bright pink fluffy blanket. As I started to stretch, my eyes shot open. It was Christmas morning! What was I doing in bed? My eight year old self jumped out of bed, slipped on my big furry slippers, and grabbed my dearest stuffed animal, Raspberry, a big pink bunny. As I opened the door the smell of cinnamon toast and hot chocolate filled the air. I ran to the living room and saw it… the huge pile of presents Santa had left the night before. “Boy, I must have been good,” I thought as my eyes looked at the many gifts.

When I think about Christmas I think about tradition. Sleeping in Christmas morning, eating cinnamon toast, reading the birth story of Christ, enjoying a meal of appetizers the night before, and opening just one gift on Christmas Eve, going to church and singing Christmas carols. Most of all, experiencing the wonder of the holidays and seeing Christ alive in every joyous moment.

For me, Christmas is more than just a holiday. It’s a reminder of how much I love my family. It’s a reminder of how fortunate I am to live in a circumstance where I can celebrate the holidays with decadent food and presents. It’s a reminder of everything good in the world and how that good is a reflection of who Christ is and what He desires for our lives. Genesis 1:31 reads, “God looked upon all He had made, and it was good.” It was good. God’s desire is good.
